QR Tag Guide

How QR Tags Work

A HomeSafePet QR tag connects your pet to a profile that anyone can open with a phone camera.

Every HomeSafePet tag is laser etched with a QR code and a unique profile ID in the format HSP-XXXXXXXX. The code points to one permanent pet profile page. That page is what a finder sees.

What happens when a tag is scanned

  1. 1The finder points a standard phone camera at the QR code, or types the profile ID on the HomeSafePet website.
  2. 2The pet's public profile opens in a browser. No app or account is needed.
  3. 3The finder sees the pet's name, description, and the contact and recovery options you chose to make public.
  4. 4The finder uses those options to reach you directly.

A QR tag is not a tracker

A QR tag has no GPS and no battery. It does not track your pet's location and it does not report where your pet is. It works by giving whoever finds your pet a fast way to reach you.

You control what is shown

Your public profile only shows the details you enable. You can share a phone number if you want finders to be able to call, or keep contact limited to the options available in your profile settings. You can change these choices at any time from your dashboard.

Your profile ID never changes

The profile ID printed on the tag stays with the pet profile permanently. Updating your phone number, address, or photo does not change the ID or require a new tag.

Caring for the tag

  • Wipe the tag occasionally so the code stays easy to scan.
  • Check the split ring or attachment every few months.
  • If a tag is lost or badly worn, order a replacement. Your profile and profile ID stay the same.
