How to Register Your Pet's Microchip
What you need before you start, how the HomeSafePet registry record works, and how to keep it accurate.
Registration connects your pet's microchip number to a record with your contact information. Without it, a scan produces a number that leads nowhere.
Before you start
- Your pet's microchip number. HomeSafePet supports 9, 10, and 15 digit numbers.
- Basic pet details: name, species, breed, color, and date of birth if known.
- Your current phone number, email address, and mailing address.
- An alternate contact if you want a second person listed.
If you do not know the number, ask your veterinarian to scan your pet. Adoption paperwork and clinic records often list it as well.
Registering with HomeSafePet
- 1Purchase microchip registration for your pet.
- 2Enter the microchip number exactly as it appears on your paperwork or scanner reading.
- 3Add your pet's details and your contact information.
- 4Submit the record and review it in My Microchips in your dashboard.
Registration is not the implant
HomeSafePet registers microchip numbers. The chip itself is implanted by a veterinarian. If your pet is not chipped yet, talk to your vet about having it done, then register the number here.
Keeping the record accurate
Update your record whenever you move or change your phone number. If your pet goes to a new owner, use the ownership transfer process so the record follows the pet instead of going stale.
