Keeping Your Pet Information Current

Out of date contact details are the most common reason identification fails. A yearly check fixes it.

Identification only works if it points to a phone number someone is actually answering. Contact details drift over the years, and it is usually nobody's fault that they went stale.

A yearly review

  • Confirm the phone number and email on your HomeSafePet account.
  • Confirm the contact options shown on each pet's public profile.
  • Update your microchip registration record if your address changed.
  • Refresh your pet's photo, particularly for young or changing pets.
  • Update weight, markings, and any new medical needs.

Update after life changes

New phone number, new home, new second contact, or a change in who cares for the pet are all good reasons to review your records the same week.

If the pet changes households

Use the ownership transfer process rather than sharing account logins. The pet keeps its profile ID and history, and the new owner gets a record they control.
